IBM Tivoli Netcool/Webtop 1.3.1 Fundamentals is a 2 day intensive course designed for the system administrator responsible for installing, configuring, customizing and administering world class IT visual management services products.

Focusing on development, deployment, configuration and management of the Netcool/Webtop Server, this course takes students from the standard configuration tasks to more advanced configurations of related components. Each student installs the Webtop server on their own lab machine and from this point forward, the student is challenged with applying concepts and facts and creating real world scenarios. Later, as the course develops, the emphasis shifts and the student configures customized maps, charts, and table views from real-time network data. This is a performance-based course and all students emerge with a thorough understanding of visualization server technology.
Audience
Network Operation Centre personnel who are required to install, administer and configure Netcool/Webtop. Micromuse, Channel Partner or System Integrator personnel who will be required to install, configure, maintain or support Netcool/Webtop systems.
Prerequisites
Each student should have a practical understanding of Windows and UNIX at a system administration level, and know how to:
- Navigate the Windows/UNIX directory structure
- Use basic utilities such as PS, Telnet, FTP, Top, Windows Task Manager
- Troubleshoot user and group accounts in Windows and UNIX
- Diagnose and resolve causes and other software anomalies
- Completed Netcool/OMNIbus courses for users, administrators, and configuration
Students should also understand protocols, Web-specific files, databases, and basic scripting. For example:
- System configuration files, and rules files for probes
- TCP and IP
- XML
- SQL
- Basic shell scripting and programming
