Pirean are delighted to receive the IBM Tivoli Business Partner Service Management Solution Award at Pulse 2010.

The award, presented by IBM Tivoli Software General Manager, Al Zollar and IBM Tivoli's Vice President of Worldwide Sales, Joao Perez to Pirean CTO, Mike Cartwright recognises the IBM Business Partner solution that uses Tivoli products to deliver smarter services and manage dynamic infrastructures for improved service, cost reduction and impermeable security management.

Working with a major UK Government Agency, Pirean's winning solution enables the organisation to take an accurate view of the entire IT estate, KPI reporting and SLA management to deliver an integrated approach to service management that links Incident, Problem, Change and Configuration through Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager (TADDM), Tivoli Change and Configuration Manager Database (CCMDB) and Tivoli Service Request Manager (TSRM).

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Mike Cartwright remarked: "Through reviewing existing documented process and interviewing key personnel, from the Helpdesk manager to the Change Manager, we were able to review and document process in line with ITIL best practice – and by leveraging the integrated IBM portfolio, design a solution from a technology perspective to ensure that process was followed."

The winning solution includes customer specific customisations to each Screen within TSRM and CCMDB, as well as implementing workflows that guide the user through the defined service management process.

This successful validation means that Compliance: One now carries the official 'Ready for IBM Tivoli software' mark.

Pirean is delighted to announce the inclusion of three more IT Service Management and Security solutions to the IBM Open Process Automation Library (OPAL), the comprehensive online catalogue directory of Tivoli integrations and solutions developed by IBM and IBM Business Partners. Inclusion in OPAL means the solution enables each solution to use the exclusive 'Ready for IBM Tivoli software' mark.

The newly-validated solutions are:

  • Pirean Identity Manager Reconciler Tool developed to manage reconciliation in a large scale ITIM environment, with many defined ITIM services. The Reconciler tool allows “on the fly” parallel reconciliations of ITIM services with many flexible configuration options and significantly reduces overall reconciliation times. Pirean pick up the Challenge and Division 2 trophies in the 2009 Equinix Silicon Cup.

Pirean entered an award winning weekend by picking up two trophies in this week's Equinix Silicon Cup - winning both the Challenge and Divison 2 trophies.

Since the first event in 2000 it has grown to include more than 400 competitors and continues to attract more companies that join those that have taken part regularly over the years. The 2009 event took take place on the 17–18 September in Cowes on the Isle of Wight (England).

Skipper Rob Macgregor (a Principal Consultant of Pirean's security practice) said "I was so impressed with the teamwork and can-do attitude of the Pirean crew. Coming into the event most of them were complete novices, but by the end of two days they were working like a well-oiled machine and pulling off manoeuvres that a professional crew would be proud of".

Pirean are pleased to announce that their industry leading solution for logical access and compliance management, Compliance: One, has today been selected as a finalist in the Best Information Security Product Of The Year at the BCS and Computing awards.

With over 400 entrants across 25 categories, Pirean have gone through the initial judging process and will face an interview with expert judges drawn from across the industry in early October. The winners will be announced at a gala dinner at the Battersea Park Events Arena on 12 November.

The number of services within an organisation, and array of application or project based approaches to implementing security, typically results in inflexible security solutions - and a significant support and maintenance workload.

This application delivers centralised access control for all of your WebSphere applications - flexible enough to support application specific authorisation requirements, multi-level authentication and intelligent workflow based user validation.

Once the application has succeeded in completing the appropriate authentication service, it will extract additional information from a range of sources, such as Active Directory, LDAP Servers or external Databases. This additional data will be associated with the current user’s session and used later to drive access control decisions and personalisation within the chosen Business Application.

Providing an intuitive web based configuration interface, security components such as two factor authentication become simple building blocks for the security layer that can be quickly rolled out across the application landscape.

From a compliance perspective, the securely signed application logs provide a view of access across the WebSphere application estate.

Pirean present security track at event for Tivoli user community

Pirean joined the Tivoli User Group at IBM Southbank to share knowledge and discuss issues and solutions with some of Tivoli's diverse user base.

Heading up the security track for the day was Colin Miles, Pirean's Security Practice Lead:

"Pirean were delighted to have the opportunity to lead the first ever Security track at this year’s Tivoli User Group meeting. The sessions throughout the day gave us an excellent opportunity to share experiences with a number of customers who had a wide range of interests touching different parts of the IBM Tivoli Security portfolio of solutions. Discussion on the day included input from a combination of experienced customers with mature security solution implementations, clients currently engaged on new deployment projects – through to some interested parties who were just keen to find out more about the capabilities of some of the solutions in the spotlight.

Tivoli User Group

The security focussed sessions for the day took in a range of subject material, from relatively high level considerations on the IBM Security Framework model (and the future direction of the product portfolio), through to detailed technical discussions and demonstrations covering real world implementation experiences of solutions for Identity and Access Management. Additionally, we particularly valued the opportunity to engage in debate with customers around specific concerns for IT governance, risk and compliance – with much interest in the shared discussions where we were able to consider the alternative approaches available to address some of the common issues experienced in today’s challenging economic climate."
